The Roads and streets in the USA are largely asphault or concrete, laid down by large machines. With occational gravel or dirt farm roads.
In Europe, the cities streets, because the cities evolved before the automobile, were originally foot paths around which houses, and cities were built.
The streets are small, narrow, and seldom straight.
They also did not have machines, but man power, for making roads.
So, many European roads are made of individual stones, or bricks, placed by hand, in many beautiful patterns.
The same for the insides of buildings.
A road as a thing of creativity and beauty.
